The Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) is a national non-profit organization whose purpose is to enrich the teaching and learning of mathematics for students of all standards. AMT hold mathematics and informatics competitions, administer enrichment activities, conducts workshops for students and teachers, and publishes books on mathematical enrichment for Australian and international students. The AMT is based at the University of Canberra with representatives on our board from the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers, Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Mathematical Society.
The AIMO is one of the competitions used to determine which students are selected to a number of invitation only events, including other mathematics competitions, enrichment classes and training schools. It gives talented students an opportunity to be recognised and to participate in activities which will enhance their enjoyment and knowledge of mathematics.
AMT Committee and ASDAN China (ASDAN Academy) have cooperated to bring the AIMO to China from 2018. It's a very challenging competition for middle school students. Usually level C and D awarded students in AMC would attend this competition. Students from about 16 international and key middle schools have participated in this competition in 2018.
