About the Festival
Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival -Founded in 2007 in the capital of music Vienna, Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival has received nearly 20.000 participants from 45 different countries over the past years, offered a music-focused international arts exchange platform for outstanding performers and ensembles from all over the world.
Proudly supported by Austrian Commission for UNESCO, having the Federal President of the Republic of Austria Alexander van der Bellen as Honorary Board, the festival has become one of the most acclaimed and prestigious youth music festivals in Europe.
Since 2021, Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with ASDAN China to host Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival (China), allowing more Chinese young performers to participate in this prestigious international event and explore the beauty of music.
Although the global epidemic has changed the way of arts communication, it will not change our passion for arts. Artistic Director, Head of Jury
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1961 and living in Denmark, Saul Zaks is and international conductor and mediator who connects people from different cultures and provides a cross-cultural communication through music and the arts. He has been the conductor of The Musicology Students Choir at the University of Aarhus, and of The University of Southern Denmark Chamber Choir and Symphony Orchestra. He has gained a nomination for the Latin Grammy Award 2016 in the category Best Tango Album - "Sax to Tango" - together with Pablo Ziegler, Julio Botti, Franco Pinna & The University of Southern Denmark Symphony Orchestra. Today Saul Zaks is the Artistic Director & Conductor of the Misatango Festival Vienna. In 2018 Saul Zaks was appointed Artistic Director for the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna.

Austrian-Ukrainian violinist, Thomastik-Infeld Artist, president of Central International Music Academy Vienna (CIMA) since 2018, foreign expert at College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts. Graduated with distinction and an honorary prize awarded by the Austrian Ministry of Culture from the University of Music and performing Arts Vienna, Tymur is also the prize-winner at F. Kreisler International Violin Competition, as well as at J. Brahms and Osaka International Music Competitions. He is regularly performing as soloist with orchestra, and as a chamber musician all over the world.

Austrian pianist, foreign expert at College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts. Graduated from Mozarteum University Salzburg and Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in the USA, he is the winner of several competitions such as the Bösendorfer International Piano Competition, the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, Connecticut, and the Steinway Competition in Germany. He has given masterclasses at the Allegro Vivo Festival in Vienna and the Vienna Young Pianists Festival. He also has been a jury member of the German Youth Music Competition.

Sub-Principal Double Bass of China National Symphony Orchestra, graduated from China Conservatory of Music. Recently, he performed with Tianjin Symphony Orchestra, Lanzhou Symphony Orchestra etc. as guest principal double bass. In 2016, he won the first price of "Singapore International Chinese String Competition". In 2015, he collaborated with the legendary Chinese conductor Muhai Tang and participated in the Chinese premiere of Britten's chamber opera "The Turn of the Screw". He performed and recorded Stravinsky's chamber music "The Soldier's Tale" with the Castle Chamber Orchestra.

Ukrainian choral conductor, professor and doctoral supervisor of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, expert of International Federation for Choral Music, member of the International society of Children's Choral, founder of "East-West Cultural Interaction Association" of Guangzhou International Exchange & Cooperation Centre for Ukrainian Musicians. She is a senior expert in children's choral education, and a visiting professor at Hong Kong Baptist University and Central Philippine University. She has led the Victoria Choir to win more than 30 gold and silver medals in national and international choral competitions.

His interactive multimedia works have won several prizes in the MUSICACOUSTICA BEIJING composition competition and he has given lectures at several Asian New Media Art Days. His new media music works Cinemagic, Boundless and Hymn for creators have been performed at art events in China, USA and Europe.

Young percussionist and a national percussionist with the Central National Orchestra, national-level performer He graduated from the China Conservatory of Music in 2000 and was admitted to the Central National Orchestra with distinction. In 2002, he won the silver medal in the young percussion category of the First National Instrumental Solo Competition organised by the Ministry of Culture. 2005, he performed with Professor Zhang Xiaofu of the Central Conservatory of Music in the Sino-French Cultural Year and completed China's first electronic music and percussion concerto "Norilang". The concert was a success. He has been teaching piano, percussion and music theory for a long time, and has participated in many important performances at home and abroad with his group.Arts Journey
Online Opening
The opening ceremony will be held as an online conference. The artistic director and the jury of Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival will join and greet all the participants, present the outstanding performances of previous festival winners, introduce the schedule and highlights of the online festival.
Live Competition
Solo:Participants shall send 1 performance video within 5 mins to the organizing committee before the deadline, and perform in real time through live broadcasting during the solo competition (perform by memory requested). The jury will combine the performance of the contestants in the video recording and live broadcast to give them a comprehensive score
Ensemble:Participants shall send 1 performance video within 8 mins to the organizing committee before the deadline. The judges will watch the uploaded recordings during the ensemble competition and score them together online.
Online Music Workshop
Each participant can choose one online music workshop in the morning and one in the afternoon to attend, each workshop session lasts about 2 hours. After the workshop, participants can upload their work as a presentation of the musical knowledge just learned.
Online Award Ceremony
During the online award ceremony, the organizing committee will announce the winners and ensembles, and play the best performance videos of the winners. In addition, the outstanding works completed during the online music workshop will be presented.

[The Magic of Sound: Vocal Technique]
Aimed for students of all ages who want to improve their vocal skills. The instructor will teach proper vocal technique, breathing method, and articulation during the workshop, using a song as an example.
[Fantastic Hip Hop: Beatbox]
Suitable for students with fundamental music skills and are interested in hip-hop and vocal. The instructor will teach the basic vocal sounds of Beatbox and practice methods, compound beat training, show how to combine different tones and rhythms.
[Crazy Composition: Improvisation]
Suitable for advanced age students who have mastered some basic music theory and are interested in composition. The instructor will use a song as an example for appreciation and analysis, and introduce how to write, record melodies and arrange harmonies.
[Rhythm Beats: Percussion]
Aimed for younger children. The instructor will lead participants through simple percussion and rhythmic games to learn the fundamental skills of rhythm, how to play simple percussion pieces using ordinary objects as percussion instruments.

Judging Criteria
1. All individual participants should perform by memory during the live broadcasting competition. The jury has the right to interrupt or require the participants to play part of the music pieces, this rule shall not affect the final points
2. The jury will evaluate the participants based on different aspects like musical interpretation, rhythm, intonation, techniques, overall artistic impression
3. The jury reserves the right to reserve prizes, vacancies or ties depending on the situation. The results of the competition will not be changed once announced

Awards are set and presented based on different sub-categories / ages
The total number of the awards will be determined by the number of participants. We’d like to encourage every "young artist" who loves music to improve their performing skills and deepen their passion for music during the festival.

Besides, to enhance social and interactive experience, “Most Popular Performance” will be set up based on the results of the off-site online voting compaign during the live competition.

Advanced Events
The winners of the competition will be invited as ambassadors of cultural exchange between Austria and China to participate in the celebration concert and reception hosted by the Austrian Embassy in China, where they will have a face-to-face meeting with Austrian diplomats and learn more about Austrian culture.

The winners of the competition will be invited to participate in Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna in July 2022. At the global event, they will enjoy face-to-face live and alive music experience with the young artists from all over the world.

Recording Requirements
1. Please pay attention to the lighting and angle when recording, and make sure that at least the upper half of your body is in the shot, your face and hand movements are clearly visible.
2. No editing, no filtering, no cutting, no post-editing are allowed.
3. Please start the recording with:“We are XX from XX school, participating in the vocal/western/folk music XX category, we are going to perform XXX today”, and bow after the performance.
4. The video file should be named as Category + Individual/Ensemble and sent to email scl@seedasdan.org before 28 January, 2022.
5. The video can be submitted as a web link or as a file, together with the score of the work. The file should be in MP4 or MOV format and should not exceed 1G. Please name the video file as Category + Individual/Ensemble name.
6. Solo: 1 performance video within 5 minutes, recorded within 6 months
