Hong Kong is a highly international city and the third largest financial center in the world. It plays the role of an international finance, trade and shipping center, which makes it one of the most competitive cities worldwide. Hong Kong is known for its honest and upright government, public security, free trade and law system. It is also called the “Pearl of the Orient”, and the “Haven of Gourmet and Shopping”.
Education in HK
The quality of Higher Education in Hong Kong is quite competitive. In the latest QS Ranking, HKU is ranked 25, HKUST is ranked 37, CUHK is ranked 49 and HKPU is ranked 106. You will have the opportunity to visit one of the famous universities and get to know the entry standard.
Each student can have two options. We would prioritize option 1 for you, however in the case that the course is full or cancelled, we would move you to option 2.

HK Culture Exploration
You will explore HK in a unique way:
- Making "A Unique HK" Micro Film: You will make a group in 5 or 6 and decide a topic related to Hong Kong. With the visits, research and team work, you will complete a micro film within 3-5 minutes.
- HK Scavenger Hunt: You will take public transportation with assigned tasks in groups. The group finishes the most tasks in the shortest time will be the winner.
- HK Culture Exploration: Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei，Central Station, Causeway Bay, Kowloon, etc.
- Visit Hong Kong Museum of History to understand how Hong Kong developed from a village to an international city.
- Try local food on streets and in the alleys.
- Go to the top of Victoria Peak to have a penoramic view of Hong Kong.
Courses will be given in Chinese or English.
Introduction to Part of the Professors/Teachers
HKUST/HKU/HKPU will offer ASDAN students their best professors/ teachers and tailor a series of lessons for teenagers to explore their careers.
Professor Wu is a lifetime professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He graduated from University of Science and Technology of China in 1983 and worked in Chinese Academy of Science for 4 years. After that, he was a visiting scholar in Hamburg University in Germany. He got the Doctor of Engineering in 1995 at Sydney University 95 and awarded ARC Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship. He started teaching in HKUST since 1996. Professor Wu is also vice director in the Chemical Committee of The Recruitment Program of Global Experts of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC,engineering plastics technical committee of CAS, specialist of the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission， etc.
Professor Yang is the associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the vice director of Engineering Materials and Reliability Research Center in the HKUST Huo Yingdong Research Institute in Guangzhou. He was an assistant professor in the School of Mechanics and Astronautics of Singapore Nanyang Technological University and a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Beckman Institute of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He graduated from University of Science and Technology of China in 2002 and got his PhD Degree of composite material in 2006 at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Science. He dedicates in researching on designing and producing the Metal - Fiber Composite Lightweight and Integration, microc-apsule, two-dimensional nano material, material genome technology and the application of aviation, boat, railways, cars and energy sources.
Yan Zhihong is a guest professor in the department of Mathematics and Finance and an honorary professor in the department of Engineering in HKUST. Meanwhile, he works as a counselor in Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute. After earning his PhD of Executive Information System from University of Arizona in 1992, he worked in top universities like Carnegie Mellon University, University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Hong Kong University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Yan leads research teams in both Mainland China and Hong Kong, dedicated in developing the system or model of online finance, derivative products, hedge fund, program-high frequency trading, structured notes, stock choosing and poverty management and modeling the risk management.
Song Yangqiu specializes in AI and he is an associate- professor in the department of Computer Science and Engineering in the school of Engineering in HKUST. He was an assistant professor in West Virginia State University in 2015 and 2016. He studied post doctorate in the University of Illinois from 2013 to 2015 and in HKUST from 2012 to 2013 and worked in the Noah's Ark-Lab in the meantime. In the period of 2010 to 2012, he was an associate researcher in Microsoft Research Asia. He was a staff of technology research and development in IBM China. Earlier, he spent 6 years getting his Bachelor and Doctor degree in Tsinghua University.
Qu Huamin is a professor in the department of Computer and Engineering and the manager of the human-computer interaction research team. Professor Qu researchs data visualization and human-computer interaction, focusing on the visualizing of smart cities, social network analyzing, E-Learning and text. He has published more than 100 thesis papers and won a quantity of prices, including 8 kinds of best thesis and honors, best IBM teacher in 2009, the higher education technology research second prize from the Ministry of Education in 2014, the creation in Hong Kong communication and information second prize in 2015, the 2015 AICTA of E-Learning prize and the excellent co-worker of Noah's Ark-Lab prize. The skills and software developed by his lab has been adopted by IBM, Microsoft, Huawei and Tencent.
